In 2008 the village, the Smedmore Estate and Mr Steve Etches, renowned fossil collector, began collaborating on an imaginative, innovative and mutually beneficial project. It brings together the Village Hall Trust and the Museum of Jurassic Marine Life Trust in creating a purpose built centre in the heart of the village that will serve the local community and visiting tourists and students; it will house a fossil collection of global significance and provide an important educational facility. These objectives will be achieved without adversely affecting the character and environment of the village and its surrounding area. This is the Kimmeridge Project.
Over the next few months we shall be working hard to make this vision a reality. Plans have been agreed for the Centre and fundraising is underway.
